Wednesdays, 6PM – 9:30PM, Term-time only.

Cowley, Oxford

Closing Date:  Sunday 19 May 2024

The opportunity to lead an inspiring and much-loved youth group and make a difference to the lives of 18 to 25-year-olds.

“Youth group helped me in my darkest times. It’s hard to imagine life without youth group. There has always been people to talk to if I am having a rough time, and I have made a lot of lifelong friends along the way.”

If you want to create a social, nurturing, fun, and empowering space for young autistic adults, then this job may be for you!

You will manage our well-established weekly youth group for young adults aged 18 – 25  who are autistic without a Learning Disability. You will coordinate the youth group, line manage 1 Youth Support Worker and a group of volunteers, support and enable young people, and organise activities – with assistance from staff and volunteers.

The youth group provides a relaxed space for members to chillout, socialise, discuss and organise activities and offsite trips, build confidence, social skills, friendships, and independence.  Typically, the members attend mainstream college or employment, are seeking independence, are engaging, creative, and supportive of each other. They love attending our youth group because it’s their space to be themselves, socialise, go out and about, and be supported and heard by peers and staff.

Weekly working hours are Wednesdays 6PM  – 9:30PM, during school term-time only (39 weeks per year). An additional 1.25 hours per week is provided for planning, admin, occasional staff meetings, or training – this additional time may be accrued and used as & when needed.

Professional experience in leading group work with young people/adults is essential. The successful candidate must be able to nurture and enable young people on the autism spectrum, be a good leader, very organised, work responsibly using initiative, can model and encourage good social skills, and be mature with a sense of fun.
